CISF Uncovers Record-Breaking Gold Smuggling Attempt at Surat Airport
Gold Smuggling Attempt at Surat Airport Latest News: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has uncovered what is believed to be the largest-ever gold smuggling attempt at Surat International Airport.
A total of 28 kilograms of gold paste was found expertly strapped around the midsections and upper torsos of a middle-aged Indian couple arriving on Air India Flight IX-174 from Dubai, according to ANI. The duo — residents of Gujarat — were caught attempting to smuggle the gold into the country.
“In a historic breakthrough at Surat Airport, on 20th July 2025, CISF’s intelligence staff profiled two passengers arriving from Dubai as suspicious based on their behavior. This precise input about the passengers was passed to Customs officials. Based on this alert, Customs intercepted the duo and subjected them to a thorough search,” the CISF stated in a post on X.
The search led to a major seizure of approximately 28 kg of gold paste, which was ingeniously concealed on their bodies.
According to ANI, the woman was carrying 16 kg of gold paste, while the man had 12 kg. Based on the concentration levels of the paste, officials estimate the pure gold yield to be over 20 kg — making it likely the biggest gold haul in the airport’s history, according to ANI.
The seized gold has been taken into Customs custody for further investigation.
“These efforts have set a new benchmark for proactive surveillance, profiling, and inter-agency coordination,” the CISF added in its post.
