PM Modi Offers Condolences and Support, International Community Rallies for Relief

NEW-DELHI: Tragedy struck Morocco as a powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake rattled the southwestern region of Marrakesh late Friday night, leaving behind a trail of destruction and a heartbreaking death toll exceeding 630 individuals. This Natural Disaster has also left dozens injured and has prompted swift international responses to aid the affected.

The Earthquake, which struck at approximately 11:11 pm local time, sent tremors of terror throughout the region. The Epicenter was located 71 kilometers from Marrakesh, with a depth of 18.5 kilometers, amplifying the intensity of the quake and its devastating consequences.

Even as the news of the disaster unfolded, leaders from around the world extended their condolences to Morocco. During a G-20 meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families. He said, "I want to express my condolences to the people affected by the earthquake in Morocco. We pray for a speedy recovery for all the injured. The entire world community is with Morocco in this difficult time. We are ready to provide all possible assistance to them."

Videos capturing the aftermath of the earthquake have emerged, depicting a grim scene of devastation. Streets are littered with scattered goods, and individuals can be seen fleeing shopping centers, restaurants, and apartment buildings in panic. The U.S. Geological Survey, responsible for monitoring such events, issued preliminary data on the earthquake's magnitude. They have also issued an Orange Alert, indicating significant economic damage with further consequences expected.

As Morocco grapples with the aftermath of this catastrophic event, the international community has rallied to provide support and relief efforts. The focus is on delivering immediate assistance to those affected, including medical aid, shelter, and essential supplies.
