Due to continuous rains, 7 districts of Punjab are facing floods. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala are the worst hit. Over 150 villages in Ferozepur and Fazilka have been submerged. NDRF, SDF, and Army teams are carrying out rescue operations. So far, more than 100 people have been rescued from different places.
Today, the Army rescued 22 CRPF personnel and 3 civilians from a collapsed building surrounded by floodwaters at Madhopur Headworks in Pathankot by helicopter.
Indian Army Aviation on Wednesday undertook a high-risk helicopter rescue operation, evacuating stranded civilians and CRPF personnel from a building surrounded by raging floodwaters and at imminent risk of collapse at Madhopur Headworks, Punjab.
The Army helicopter landed on the roof of a two-story building to carry out the operation, and in a dramatic turn of event, as soon as the helicopter took off from the roof, the front of the building collapsed and some debris fell into the water. The army continued the operation and rescued all those trapped on the roof of the ruined building.
“Braving challenging weather and rapidly rising waters, the team’s swift and fearless response ensured every life was brought to safety,” Indian Army said in a post on X while sharing footages from the scene.
“At dawn today, Army Aviation helicopters were launched for a rescue mission that tested nerves, skill and determination. Despite dangerous flying conditions, Army pilots brought their helicopter down on a building that was already on the verge of collapse — a feat demanding the highest level of flying skills and unmatched bravery. Risking their own lives, the soldiers ensured that every single stranded person was lifted to safety,” the post further read.

“In a chilling reminder of what was at stake, the very building on which the helicopter had landed gave way shortly after the evacuation, highlighting the timely and decisive rescue efforts. Any Mission, Any Time, Any Where,” the post added.
Railway services have been brought to a halt at Jammu and Katra railway stations today, as the region continues to witness rain. 22 trains that were running or scheduled have been cancelled. Earlier on Tuesday, the journey of 27 trains was stopped midway.
