Mohali doctor felicitated for work on Hepatitis C in US
Dr Jagpreet Chhatwal from Mohali has been awarded the “Impact Award” by the global society The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), jointly with colleague Dr Rachael Fleurence. The awards are for their contribution towards eliminating Hepatitis C in the United States. The recognition honours how health-economics and outcomes-research (HEOR) can influence public-health policy and can bring shifts for real-world benefits.
Chhatwal and Fleurence’s multi-year collaborative work brought together agencies across academia, government and industry, including the US White House, the national institutes, regulatory bodies and Congress. Their modelling and analysis informed the official fiscal score which was prepared by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for the proposed Cure Hepatitis C Act of 2025, bipartisan legislation in the US Senate aimed at eliminating Hepatitis C.
Chhatwal commented on the honour and said the award “is a testament to how rigorous and policy-relevant HEOR can help advance national health goals and improve lives.”
This recognition shines a spotlight on work that transcends borders. It reinforces how regional talent can contribute meaningfully to global public health.
