Donald Trump Re-Claims Role in Cooling India-Pakistan Tensions During Military Address in Qatar

Trump quipped, “They’ve been fighting for about a thousand years... That’s a lot. I’m not sure about settling that.”

In a speech to American troops stationed in Qatar, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed credit for de-escalating recent tensions between India and Pakistan, citing personal intervention and diplomatic outreach as key to avoiding what he described as a potential military confrontation.

Without disclosing specific actions or timelines, Trump suggested that growing hostility between the two nuclear-armed neighbors had been successfully diffused last week with his help. “I don’t want to say I did, but I sure as hell helped settle the problem,” he told the gathered U.S. service members.

Trump described the situation as increasingly volatile, implying that missile exchanges might have been imminent if not for U.S. involvement. “It was getting more and more hostile and all of a sudden you’ll start seeing missiles of a different type,” he said. “And we got it settled.”

While the President provided no details on the nature of his mediation, he claimed both countries responded positively to U.S. efforts, particularly around the idea of enhancing trade ties in place of conflict. “Let’s do trade instead of war,” he said, noting that both Islamabad and New Delhi were “very happy” with the results of the talks.

Referring to the long-standing animosity between the two nations, Trump quipped, “They’ve been fighting for about a thousand years... That’s a lot. I’m not sure about settling that.”

There has been no official confirmation from either India or Pakistan regarding the alleged intervention. However, the comments come amid a relatively quiet phase in cross-border relations following months of diplomatic frostiness and intermittent clashes.

The White House has yet to release any formal briefing or transcript expanding on Trump's claims.
