Lahore Enforces Temporary Ban on Outdoor Activities Amid Rising Air Pollution

Pakistan Air Pollution Lockdown Latest News: In response to escalating air pollution, the Lahore district administration has issued a temporary ban on outdoor activities, effective from November 11 to 17, according to ARY News.

The notification from the Deputy Commissioner’s office mandates a halt on sports, exhibitions, and events, and restricts outdoor dining, though religious gatherings are exempt.

Additionally, shops, markets, and malls must close by 8 PM, with exceptions granted for medical stores, labs, petrol stations, and grocery stores. Large department stores may only keep grocery and medical sections open.

In a similar move, Islamabad has introduced stringent measures to combat air pollution, including the closure of brick kilns and factories emitting smoke. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, following consultations with the Islamabad Transport Authority and Excise Department, announced that smoke-emitting vehicles will be barred from city roads, and open-air burning of garbage is strictly prohibited.

A recent Green Master Plan report reveals six primary causes of Lahore’s worsening smog, pointing to the city’s transformation into a "heat island" due to rapid urbanization and diminishing green spaces.
