Suspended Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh Controversy Latest News: Giani Harpreet Singh, the suspended jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, has ignited controversy by accusing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) of conspiring to orchestrate his permanent removal from Takht services.
Labeling the conspirators as “messengers of Badals,” Giani Harpreet Singh alleged that the SGPC’s three-member inquiry committee had accelerated its proceedings against him. This comes shortly after the postponement of a crucial meeting of the five high priests, originally scheduled for January 28.
“The meeting was meant to discuss decisions in light of Gurmat but was delayed to facilitate the SGPC’s executive body meeting aimed at ensuring my ouster,” he claimed.
According to Giani Harpreet Singh, the SGPC inquiry committee visited the Takht at Talwandi Sabo to gather statements alleging his violation of ‘maryada’ (Sikh code of conduct) when he appeared before the ‘Panj Pyaras’ (Guru’s five beloved ones) to address allegations against him.
“These committee members are acting under the guidance of a SAD leader previously expelled by the Akal Takht,” he alleged, adding that those aligned with such “nefarious designs” enjoy undue privileges even after retirement.
He further suggested that efforts were underway to implicate him in a frivolous case. “If they terminate my services, I will decide my next course of action and expose the truth,” he asserted, refraining from naming specific individuals.
Notably, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh criticized the SGPC for initiating the inquiry, arguing that it encroaches on the Akal Takht’s exclusive authority to hold jathedars accountable.
Additionally, Giani Raghbir Singh emphasized that the SGPC’s inquiry was unwarranted, as Giani Harpreet Singh had already appeared before the ‘Panj Pyaras’ to address an 18-year-old domestic dispute, which he described as “baseless.”
