Punjab BR Ambedkar Statue Vandalism Protest, Amritsar Bandh Latest News Today: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday strongly condemned the attempted vandalism of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Amritsar, pledging strict action against those responsible.
The incident occurred on Heritage Street near the Golden Temple, where a man from Moga district allegedly attempted to damage the statue at Town Hall using a steel ladder and a hammer. The Amritsar Police Commissionerate swiftly arrested the accused and registered an FIR.
In a post on X, CM Mann denounced the act, emphasizing, "This incident is highly condemnable, and no one will be forgiven. Whoever is responsible will face severe punishment. Punjab's brotherhood and unity will not be allowed to break." He added that the administration has been instructed to investigate the matter thoroughly and take stringent action.
A video of the incident circulating on social media shows the man climbing the statue with a ladder and hammer in hand, sparking outrage across the state.
Opposition Demands a Thorough Investigation
Leaders from across political parties also condemned the act and called for a detailed inquiry to uncover any underlying conspiracy.
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring termed the incident a "deep-rooted conspiracy" and called for a high-level probe. Similarly, BJP leader Tarun Chugh insisted on severe punishment for the culprit and emphasized the need to unearth the conspiracy.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism, with leaders urging unity to uphold communal harmony and ensure justice for such acts.
