Chandigarh: Punjab Leader of the Opposition Partap Bajwa has made a sensational claim ahead of the Punjab Assembly session, alleging that 32 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs are in contact with him, expressing their willingness to switch to the Congress.
Bajwa accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of failing to fulfill its pre-election promises, particularly the much-publicized Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium pledge. He criticized AAP’s governance, stating that the delay in implementing welfare schemes has led to growing dissatisfaction among its legislators.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Pargat Singh added fuel to the political fire by stating that AAP is preparing to replace Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He claimed that the leadership change is imminent, especially after AAP's significant setback in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Following the defeat, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has summoned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs for a crucial meeting at Kapurthala House in Delhi. The move has sparked speculation, with the BJP alleging that the meeting is a prelude to removing Mann from his post.
AAP, however, maintains that the gathering is intended for introspection and strategy-building, focusing on analyzing the party’s shortcomings after its loss in Delhi. The recent elections saw AAP’s dominance in the capital wane, as the BJP secured 48 seats, while AAP managed only 22, ending its decade-long rule.
As Punjab’s political landscape intensifies, all eyes will be on the upcoming Assembly session and the possible realignments within AAP’s ranks.
