National Arogya Fair 2026: President Murmu Pushes Evidence-Based Growth of AYUSH in Maharashtra
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Arogya Fair 2026 in Shegaon, Buldhana district of Maharashtra, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. According to an official release, she also honoured six senior Vaidyas for their significant contributions to AYUSH healthcare during the event.
The President emphasised in her address that Indian tradition regards good health as the greatest form of happiness and that a healthy population is essential for contributing to a strong nation. She added that systems such as Yoga, Ayurveda and Siddha have long supported public health and continue to serve society.
The President pointed out that India’s farms, kitchens and forests are rich sources of medicinal plants and herbs. She stressed the need to conserve and promote these natural resources, as they provide essential raw materials for medicines and help maintain ecological balance. Cultivation of medicinal plants, she added, can improve farmers’ incomes while also supporting soil health and environmental protection.
She observed that Ayurveda, Yoga and other AYUSH disciplines encourage a balanced and healthy lifestyle. With growing global interest in integrative medicine, people around the world are increasingly turning to yoga and Ayurvedic remedies for preventive care and overall wellbeing.
The President said that evidence-based research, standardisation of medicines and strict quality control will boost the credibility and wider acceptance of AYUSH systems. She appreciated the Ministry of AYUSH for aligning research and drug development with international standards. She noted that scientific studies are underway to position Ayurveda, Yoga and other AYUSH practices as dependable solutions to modern health issues, expressing confidence that innovation and global collaboration will help integrate them into mainstream healthcare.
The Ministry of AYUSH was established in November 2014 to promote and strengthen India’s traditional systems of medicine. The National Arogya Fair aims to spread awareness about these practices and present research-based products to the public.
