A scrap dealer in Faridabad returned a packet containing gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 15 lakh to its rightful owner after discovering it among a batch of discarded household items he had purchased months earlier.
The packet containing 100 grams of gold jewellery belonged to Ashok Sharma, who had by mistake sold it during a Diwali clean-up. The gold was formally handed over at the office of ACP Ballabhgarh, Jitesh Malhotra.
Sharma said his family had stored their gold ornaments in a box, which was then placed inside a sack at home before they left for the Kumbh Mela in January last year to prevent theft. However, during Diwali cleaning, the sack was mistakenly treated as junk and sold to a scrap dealer.
