Hundreds of users across India found themselves locked out of virtual meetings as Google Meet suddenly caused disruptions on Wednesday, 26th November. Early reports from outage tracker Downdetector showed increasing complaints. By 11:49 a.m. IST, over 981 users had flagged “joining meeting” issues, and by 11:57 a.m., some sources reported more than 1,370 such incidents, according to Mint.

Users described a variety of problems: many couldn’t load the meeting interface, some were stuck on blank or endlessly spinning screens when they were trying to “join”, and many of them got stuck before even entering the virtual room. In many cases, the “Join now” button simply didn’t respond.

As expected, social media quickly lit up with reactions — frustration, sarcasm and memes started buzzing. A user said, “Google Meet crashed before my will to work did,” while another wrote, “Google Meet is down for everyone in my org but not for me.” Still others expressed relief in an ironically humorous tone: “Can’t open Google Meet. I’ve never been more free,” according to the Hindustan Times.

The outage has caused disruption for a wide cross-section of people: remote workers scrambled for alternate platforms, students missed online classes, and professionals couldn’t join scheduled meetings. For many, this unexpected breakdown was a stark reminder of how dependent daily work and education have become on some digital tools.
