SBI Announces USD 500 Million Social Loan to Boost Women Empowerment Ahead of Women’s Day

India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday announced the launch of a USD 500 Million syndicated social term loan facility aimed at promoting women empowerment ahead of International Women’s Day.

SBI Chairman C S Setty said the bank remains committed to strengthening women empowerment as a key pillar of sustainable development.

“This Women’s Day, we are pleased to announce this initiative as part of our responsibility as an organisation to support and advance women empowerment,” Setty said.

In a statement, the bank said the financing initiative is designed to accelerate social impact and reflects SBI’s commitment to reducing the gender gap.

According to the bank, the syndicated loan marks an important step for both SBI and the global environmental, social and governance (ESG) financing landscape.

The bank said the initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.

Setty said the landmark social loan also reflects SBI’s strong commitment to environmental, social and governance principles, with a special emphasis on creating opportunities for women.

SBI said the initiative highlights its broader efforts to promote inclusive growth through socially responsible financing.
