Omar Abdullah CM Latest News: In his first official decision after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for the second time, Omar Abdullah announced a policy to avoid public inconvenience during his travels. Abdullah directed the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police not to create green corridors or stop traffic for his movement, a common practice for high-profile figures, to ensure the public faces minimal disruption.
Taking to social media, Omar Abdullah stated, "I have instructed the DG @JmuKmrPolice that there is to be no 'green corridor' or traffic stoppage during my road travels. We must minimize public inconvenience, and siren use should be minimal. Additionally, no stick-waving or aggressive gestures should be employed."
Abdullah further urged his Cabinet colleagues to adopt the same people-first approach. "Our conduct must be people-friendly. We are here to serve the public, not to inconvenience them," he added.
Omar Abdullah took the oath as Chief Minister at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, marking the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir after six years. Surinder Singh Choudhary was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, representing Jammu in the new government.
The Congress party opted out of joining the Cabinet, citing its continued demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Senior leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Akhilesh Yadav, were in attendance at the swearing-in ceremony.
Five MLAs took the oath, with four Cabinet positions still awaiting future appointments as part of the government expansion.
