IndiGo Flight Disruptions Continue as Cancellations Surge Across Major Indian Airports

On Thursday, 4th December 2025, many airports in India again witnessed disruptions. IndiGo flights were delayed or cancelled. The disruptions left thousands of passengers stranded. These disruptions persisted for a third straight day at metro hubs and regional airports.

At Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi), over 30 outgoing flights from IndiGo got cancelled. At Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru), 73 flights got cancelled. Meanwhile, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad), according to estimates from sources, about 33 outgoing and 35 incoming flights could be cancelled. Flight disruptions occurred at other major airports also, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata).

Social media posts and firsthand travellers’ accounts showed increased frustration: long queues, confusion, and repeated cancellations or long delays. One passenger claimed to have been stuck at Hyderabad Airport from the previous evening till late morning with no clarity on the Pune flight, while another passenger described a 22-hour delay with little communication or support.

According to an airline spokesperson, the many factors for causing disruption are “technology glitches, unfavourable weather, and increased congestion” at airports, and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules under the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) is another major factor. The stricter FDTL norms, which came into force in November, have reportedly shortened crew availability, especially pilots, which has led to severe resource crunches for scheduling flights.

The fallout has happened on a massive scale: cancelled flights, missed connections, long waits, and unpredictable travel plans for travellers nationwide. Public frustration deepened as many felt blindsided by last-minute cancellations with inadequate communication or support from the airline.

IndiGo has issued a public apology in response and said it is implementing “calibrated adjustments” to its schedules over the next 48 hours to stabilise operations. Meanwhile, the DGCA has launched a probe and asked the airline to submit a detailed explanation for the disruptions and outline mitigation plans.

For now, travellers are being advised to closely check their flight status before heading towards the airport. This string of cancellations serves as a reminder of the need to balance crew-roster rules, safety, and passenger convenience.
