Sonam Wangchuk’s Wife Moves to Supreme Court Detail Latest News: Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk’s wife has moved to the Supreme Court seeking relief through a habeas corpus petition against the detention of her husband.

On 2 October, around 5:30 PM, she filed the petition with the apex court.

While speaking to ANI, she alleged that on one hand, Sonam Wangchuk has been detained ‘inhumanely’ under the National Security Act, 1980, while on the other hand, government agencies have allegedly intensified “a witch hunt” against her and the institution, HIAL, co-founded by her and Sonam Wangchuk.

She alleged that when the government agencies could not find anything against Wangchuk and his institutions, their staff members were being physically and mentally tortured.

Following the arrest of Wangchuk, she came to Delhi, saying she wanted to make her voice heard, citing that back in Ladakh, circumstances were as if she were put under house arrest. She alleged that reporters were not allowed to meet her on the matter.

She stated that these were the reasons why she moved to the Supreme Court and that she is worried about her husband’s health condition. Wangchuk was arrested two days after he broke his 15-day-long fast, demanding safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and statehood for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

“This is why we had to approach the Supreme Court... I am worried about how he must be getting treated in jail... This message should reach throughout India: If justice can be delayed for a celebrity, with whom the whole country is rallying, who has worked at the grassroots, then what recourse does a commoner have?" she added.

According to Bar and Bench news, the petition, filed through advocate Sarvam Ritam Khare, was submitted on 2 October. The report stated that the apex court is on vacation this week for Dussehra, and it is not clear when the petition will be heard.

Wangchuk was flown out of Ladakh on the same day he was arrested and kept in Central Jail in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, according to reports.

Since then, neither his wife nor anyone close to them has been able to get in touch with Wangchuk. His wife has also written to the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister, Law Minister, and the LG of Ladakh, requesting the unconditional release of the climate activist.

Meanwhile, climate activists, various human rights activists and organizations, and some people have come in support of Wangchuk, demanding his release.
