Kapil Sharma’s Old ‘Maa-Baap Ki Kabaddi’ Joke Resurfaces Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy

The resurfacing of Kapil Sharma’s old joke has reignited discussions on double standards.

As the controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and his alleged obscene jokes escalates, comedian Kapil Sharma has now found himself under scrutiny for a past joke made on his show Comedy Nights with Kapil.

An old clip of Sharma’s stand-up routine has resurfaced on social media, where he joked about children waking up at 4 AM to watch cricket but instead witnessing their parents’ "kabaddi" before going back to sleep. The joke, which played on innuendos, is now being compared to the remarks made by Allahbadia on India’s Got Latent, which sparked widespread backlash.

Kapil Sharma’s Joke Sparks Debate on Social Media

The video of Sharma’s old joke has been circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where users are divided on whether it is inappropriate or just a common comedic trope.

A critic wrote: "Kapil Sharma is ‘enhancing’ the culture and civilization of this country, but people won’t cancel his show because the owner is rich. Samay Raina was progressing alone, so everyone got jealous of him."

Another user expressed frustration with mainstream comedy: "There's a reason why garbage like Tarak Mehta and The Kapil Sharma Show dominate the cultural landscape."

However, some defended the joke and pointed out the double standards in the backlash against Allahbadia: "Kapil Sharma makes much worse jokes on a family show, but nobody calls him out. The reaction to Ranveer Allahbadia’s joke was overblown."

Another user added: "Kapil’s comedy is often full of sexist, body-shaming, and gender-related jokes, but people conveniently ignore it. Legends like Surendra Sharma or Omar Sharif never had to resort to such humor."

Ongoing Debate on Comedy and Acceptable Limits

The resurfacing of Kapil Sharma’s old joke has reignited discussions on double standards in the entertainment industry and the evolving landscape of comedy in India. While some believe comedians should have creative freedom, others argue that certain jokes cross ethical and moral boundaries.

As conversations around offensive humor, cultural impact, and selective outrage continue, it remains to be seen if Sharma will address the resurfaced clip or if it will fade away like many past controversies in the entertainment world.
