Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced on Wednesday the approval of long-pending Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) at Doraha and Dhuri. The minister described the projects as a "milestone" and noted that they would accelerate the state’s economic prosperity and resolve issues mired in political debate for years.

The Doraha ROB, located at Level Crossing 164A on the Ambala-Ludhiana section, is estimated to cost approximately Rs 70 crore and will be fully funded by the Railways. This project aims to eliminate a high-traffic crossing where traffic volume (TVU) exceeds 6 lakh, a source of severe congestion and safety hazards for over a decade.

Simultaneously, the Ministry approved the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) for the Dhuri ROB at a cost of around Rs 54 crore. This bridge addresses frequent closures near LC 62A that often split the town and leave commuters waiting for 3 to 4 hours.

Minister Bittu shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), congratulating the people of Punjab and emphasising that the bridges will do more than connect roads. The approvals follow years of administrative challenges between the Centre and the Punjab government regarding funding and no-objection certificates.
