Punjab Women Commission Takes Suo Motu Cognizance Against Yo Yo Honey Singh And Karan Aujla News
The Punjab State Women's Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of two different songs that have reportedly triggered anger online for allegedly using offensive and derogatory language against women.
Two formal notices have been issued under section 12 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001, flagging concerns over songs sung by popular singers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Karan Aujla.
In the first notice, the commission claims that the language used in Karan Aujla’s track ‘MF GABHRU’ is inappropriate and disrespectful towards women, adding that it undermines the dignity and rights of women and could potentially promote harmful attitudes in society.
In the second notice, the Punjab State Women's Commission addressed that the song titled ‘MILLIONAIRE’, sung by popular singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, contains inappropriate content targeting women.
The commission has directed the Punjab Police Headquarters in Chandigarh to conduct an immediate inquiry and take appropriate legal action.
Punjab State Women Commission Act has also written to the Hon’ble Police Commissioner, Chandigarh, urging for urgent legal action against those responsible and to ensure the dignity of women is protected.
The commission stated that an interim report of the investigations in both cases should be submitted in writing to the Punjab State Women Commission by 11.08.2025 and that appropriate legal action be taken based on the findings.
Both the singing sensations have been summoned to appear before the commission on 11.08.2025 at different timings. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s song titled ‘MILLIONAIRE’ was released on August 26, last year, while Karan Aujla’s song titled ‘MF Gabhru’ was released on Aug 1, 2025.
