South African allrounder JP Duminy, who quit Test cricket in September 2017, reveals that he had a feeling that his Test career was over two months prior to taking the call. His last outing in the whites was against England in the first Test at Lord's in July 2017. Duminy scored 15 and 2 in his final Test where England beat South Africa comprehensively by 211 runs.

"Walking off after Lord's," Duminy said ahead of South Africa's Invitation XI's match against Bangladesh on. "I felt a change needed to happen. I rightly deserved to be dropped. There were guys putting up their hands for places and I felt I needed a different path."

Despite scoring two of his six hundreds in the last year, there was constant pressure on him to justify his place in the side given the lean patches in between his big scores. When he was dropped, he had gone eight innings without crossing a best of 39.

"It is disappointing, not just from a South African point of view but also from a global point of view. I think the manner in which it has been postponed is the most disappointing. I'm hoping it's not the end. I'm hoping it can recover and we can come to a consensus about the way forward."

Duminy will be part of the 12-man South Africa Invitation XI that is set to lock horns with Bangladesh in a 50-over practice game on October 12.
