Asian Shooting Championships 2023 Latest News: In a remarkable display of skill and precision, budding shooter Arjun Babuta from Punjab has etched his name in the annals of Indian sports history by securing a berth in the upcoming Paris Olympics. This remarkable achievement was realized as Arjun clinched gold in the 10m air rifle team category and silver in the individual event at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championships in South Korea.
Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer extended his heartfelt congratulations to Arjun Babuta, recognizing the pride he has brought to the state of Punjab. Arjun's qualification for the Paris Olympics marks a significant milestone, making him the third Punjabi shooter among the distinguished group of 10 Indian marksmen who have earned the coveted Olympic quota.
Prior to Arjun's accomplishment, shooters Sifat Kaur Samra and Rajeshwari Kumari had already secured their places at the Olympics, contributing to India's strong presence in the shooting discipline at the grand event. Furthermore, the Indian hockey team also secured a direct entry to the Olympics by clinching the gold medal at the Asian Games. This victory boasted a contingent of 10 Punjabi players, including the team captain, Harmanpreet Singh.
Praising Arjun Babuta, who hails from Jalalabad and resides in Mohali, Meet Hayer wished the young shooter success in his future endeavors.
Under the new sports policy, formulated on the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state government has pledged its support to athletes from Punjab who qualify for the Olympic Games. Each qualifying athlete will receive financial aid of Rs 15 lakh to aid in their preparation for the prestigious international sporting event.
