India and New Zealand Seal ICC Champions Trophy Semifinal Spots latest news: India and New Zealand have marched into semi-finals of the ICC champions trophy 2025 from group A leaving hosts pakistan and bangladesh. New Zealand qualified after a comprehensive win over Bangladesh by five wickets in their second match of the tournament, played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Pursuing a target of 237, the Kiwis started under pressure as they lost two early wickets. But Rachin Ravindra came up with an extraordinary innings, making 112 runs from 105 balls. This was Ravindra's fourth century in ICC ODI matches and a strong foundation for New Zealand's easy chase. The team easily achieved the target with five wickets remaining and 11.4 overs still to play.
Bangladesh, after being placed to bat, could not make a run. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top scorer with a hard-fought 77 runs and was ably supported by Jaker Ali and Rishad Hossain through late input. Unfortunately, Bangladesh could only score 236 runs and were bowled out.
With this victory, New Zealand has two wins in two matches, equaling India's great record in the tournament. The Men in Blue, under Rohit Sharma, had previously beaten Bangladesh by six wickets and then another easy victory against Pakistan. India and New Zealand have therefore secured their places in the semifinals with a match to spare.
The result of these matches also eliminated hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh from the tournament. Pakistan, led by captain Mohammad Rizwan, experienced consecutive losses in their first matches. They lost by 60 runs against New Zealand in the tournament opener, not being able to chase a formidable target of 321 runs. Pakistan was outplayed by India in their second game, who overhauled a target of 242 with six wickets and 45 balls to spare.
Just like Bangladesh's chances of advancing were ruined after losing both games against India and New Zealand. They posted a humble target of 229 against India, which was easily overrun with six wickets left. Their defeat at the hands of New Zealand confirmed their relegation.
Now that two semifinal places are secured by India and New Zealand, the focus is on the remaining teams competing to secure the last two semifinal places.
