End of an Era in 'Mitti di Kushti': Rustam-e-Hind Jassa Patti Retires at his Peak

Renowned traditional wrestler Jaskanwar Singh, popularly known as Jassa Patti, has officially announced his retirement from mud wrestling (mitti di kushti). At the age of 32, the wrestler has decided to bid farewell to the akharas and dangals while at the peak of his successful career journey.

According to the report, Jassa Patti said that he wished to follow the Punjabi tradition of leaving the arena while the "fair is still crowded," rather than waiting to be forced out.

He started his journey in 2006 at the age of 13 and fought nearly 2,000 bouts over a 20-year career. Despite facing frequent injuries that kept him away for four years, he made a strong comeback in 2014 by defeating Haryana’s Chhota Sonu.

His illustrious career is marked by prestigious titles, including Rustam-e-Hind, Bharat Kesari, Punjab Kesari, and Rustam-e-Punjab. He also holds a gold medal at the All India University level.

Known for his immense success in chhinjhs, his achievements include 12 cars, 13 tractors, 170 motorcycles, and hundreds of buffaloes. Earlier this year, he won a significant bout, earning a gold bracelet weighing seven tolas and Rs 10 lakh.

Backed by his father and coach, Jassa Patti concludes an era that saw him rise as one of India's top-ranked traditional wrestlers.
