The Indian Olympic Association has given a special spot to 'Gatka', the martial art of Sikhs, in the 37th National Games. Punjab's Gatka will be played at the national level as the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has included it as a demonstration sport in the 2023 National Games to be held in Goa in October.
With the National Games becoming a part of the curriculum this year, it has a good chance of becoming a competitive discipline in the next edition. National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) chief Harjit Singh Grewal said, "We have been requesting the IOA to recognize this sport for a long time."
