Royal Challengers Bengaluru have named Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the IPL 2025 season on Thursday, February 13.
Star batter Virat Kohli has shown his support to have Patidar as the new captain and said, "I've seen Rajat evolve in the last couple of years as a player.
He's got the chance to play for India. His game has improved many levels in the last couple of years. The way he has led his state team as well, and the responsibility that he's taken, and he's shown everyone that he has what it takes to lead this amazing franchise," said Kohli.
Rajat Patidar has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since 2021. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, he has consistently delivered strong performances in domestic cricket. Patidar made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh during the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy and has since established himself as a dependable batsman in tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Patidar was first acquired by RCB in the 2021 IPL auction, though he saw limited opportunities in his initial seasons with the franchise. Known for his elegant stroke play, composure under pressure, and adaptability in the middle order, he primarily serves as a middle-order batsman. His role often involves stabilizing the innings and accelerating the scoring rate during the middle overs.
