Quick commerce platform Swiggy has expanded its ‘Food on Train’ service to 152 railway stations across India in partnership with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), marking significant growth in its rail delivery network within one year.

The service, which was available at 70 stations in February 2025, has now grown by 117 per cent to reach 152 stations by February 2026. The expansion comes amid rising demand for diverse food options among railway passengers during long-distance travel. Indian Railways carries an estimated 2 to 2.5 crore passengers every day, making it one of the largest public transport networks globally.

Swiggy said it is focusing not only on major railway junctions but also on key regional transit hubs such as Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, and Kharagpur in West Bengal. The company aims to enhance food accessibility and improve passenger convenience through technology-enabled ordering.

Ahead of the Holi festival travel rush, Swiggy has also introduced special festive meal options for passengers between February 28 and March 8. The company stated that its menu now includes ‘train-friendly’ dishes designed for speed, ease of handling, and suitability for travel conditions.

This development highlights the growing shift toward digital-first travel services in India, where passengers increasingly expect app-based convenience across ticketing, food, and onboard services. With rising inter-city mobility and festival travel demand, technology-led food delivery at railway stations is emerging as a key segment within the broader quick commerce ecosystem.
