Now, Shubman Gill would become the new ODI captain for India, or not, time will only tell.

Shubman Gill To Replace Rohit Sharma As ODI Captain? Days after Shubman Gill was named the Indian Test team's captain, sources have revealed that the Test skipper might also replace Rohit Sharma as ODI captain. It has also been reported that if Shubman Gill's performance, not only as a batter, but as a skipper, shines in England, he might get an opportunity to lead the Indian side with the white ball too. 

Notably, there has been no direct confirmation from the BCCI so far. Shubman Gill has already proved his captaincy with the kind of performance he showed in the IPL as a skipper. Usually, a captain, also a batsman, takes pressure and only one of two traits — either captaincy or batting — Shubman has proved himself on several occasions. 

Likewise, there are reports that Shreyas Iyer might be considered for ODI captain, considering his successful run as a captain in the last few years of the IPL. While some reports claimed that he might be given captaincy before the 2027 World Cup, some claim it will be given post the World Cup, which is being considered as the last one for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. 

However, this might not be the case as reliable sources are claiming that Shubman Gill might be the one who will be leading the ODI team as well, but all he has to do is perform well as both Captain and batsman, and ensure ga ood result for India. 

Now, Shubman Gill would become the new ODI captain for India, or not, time will only tell. But as for now, he has a huge responsibility on his shoulders in the absence of both Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, and Mohammad Shami.
