World’s Largest AI Summit Opens in Delhi: Pichai, Altman, and Global Leaders Discuss AI Access and Governance
The world’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) summit began on Monday at Bharat Mandapam, drawing long queues and full halls as tech leaders, industry experts, policymakers, founders, and technologists gathered to discuss AI’s future. The event highlights India’s aim to expand AI access and promote an international agreement on global AI commons.
Despite the excitement, key speakers like Sundar Pichai of Alphabet, Sam Altman of OpenAI, and Dario Amodei of Anthropic are scheduled to appear only from February 18. The summit’s final two days, February 19 and 20, will feature more than 20 heads of state, including France’s Emmanuel Macron, Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will join business leaders and investors in discussing AI’s future.
Organisers said registrations exceeded expectations, reflecting growing interest in AI infrastructure, enterprise adoption, and sovereign computing. Over 3,250 speakers will participate across 500 sessions, covering topics such as employability, skilling, AI governance, safe and trusted AI, generative AI, and public sector applications. Parallel sessions have been full, with participants often standing in corridors to network.
Alongside the conference, an expo featuring companies like Google, Nvidia, Amazon, Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft showcases more than 300 innovations and 13 country pavilions, highlighting AI’s transformative potential for people, the planet, and progress.
The summit gives India a platform to showcase its digital infrastructure, engineering talent, and technology investments while promoting the democratisation of AI and encouraging international cooperation on responsible AI development.
