The world No. 22 edged a closely contested encounter after 75 minutes at the La Chapelle Arena. Notably, Lakshya Sen became the first Indian male badminton player to reach the semi-finals in the singles event at the Olympics.

Chou Tien Chen, seeded 12th, went through a high-intensity first game wherein he was once leading the second set following a victory in the first one but the Lakshya dominated after the mid-game interval.

In line with the first two, the third set remained intense with long rallies, wherein both shuttlers were trying to force mistakes of each other. However, Lakshya Sen was in complete control and sealed the game by 9 points.
