Paris Olympics 2024, Lakshya Sen Reaches Semifinals in Badminton: Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen scripted history on Friday as he became the first male Indian badminton player to have reached the semifinals of Men's Singles at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen defeated Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 19-21, 21-15, 21-12 in the men’s singles quarter-final badminton match at the Paris 2024 Olympics to reach the semifinals.
The world No. 22 edged a closely contested encounter after 75 minutes at the La Chapelle Arena. Notably, Lakshya Sen became the first Indian male badminton player to reach the semi-finals in the singles event at the Olympics.
Chou Tien Chen, seeded 12th, went through a high-intensity first game wherein he was once leading the second set following a victory in the first one but the Lakshya dominated after the mid-game interval.
In line with the first two, the third set remained intense with long rallies, wherein both shuttlers were trying to force mistakes of each other. However, Lakshya Sen was in complete control and sealed the game by 9 points.
Now, the two-time Youth Olympics medallist Lakshya Sen will face either 10th-seeded Loh Kean Yew or Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, the reigning Olympic champion in the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday, August 4.
