Canada Government Alleges Plot to Target Sikh Separatists Involving Amit Shah

This revelation follows an ongoing diplomatic row stemming from the death of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India Canada Latest News: Tensions between Canada and India have intensified with fresh allegations from the Canadian government suggesting Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s involvement in a plot to target Sikh separatists residing in Canada. During a session with a parliamentary panel, Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison disclosed details reportedly linking Shah to the alleged plot.

According to The Tribune, Morrison confirmed this to a U.S.-based newspaper journalist, stating that when asked if it was indeed Shah, he affirmed it was. However, Morrison did not provide any further specifics or supporting evidence during his committee address.

This revelation follows an ongoing diplomatic row stemming from the death of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada claims it has credible information linking Indian agents to Nijjar's death in June 2023, prompting an escalating dispute that led both countries to expel diplomats.

India has consistently denied any involvement in Nijjar's death or in targeting Sikh activists abroad. The Indian government has labeled these accusations as "baseless," emphasizing that it has no interest in destabilizing relations with Canada. This latest claim by Morrison is expected to further strain bilateral ties, with both countries calling for investigations and transparency.

Amid mounting pressure, international entities, including the United States, have voiced concerns and urged both Canada and India to resolve their issues diplomatically. Observers suggest that this development could lead to deeper scrutiny and involvement from global partners, particularly given the serious nature of the allegations. The Indian government has yet to respond directly to Morrison's specific claims made before the Canadian parliamentary panel.
