A silent march to commemorate the anniversary of the 1930 'Dandi March' is currently underway in Jaipur, Rajasthan, organised by Bharat Seva Sansthan.
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, who attended the march, claimed the day’s commemoration is significant as democracy is allegedly in “danger.
Speaking to the media, Gehlot said, “When the British imposed a tax on salt, the message spread across the world that a movement was underway in India... That journey, which lasted 24 days, began on this day. The journey was about 400 km long...”
“The significance of commemorating this day is that the situation has come to such a pass that democracy is in danger. An undeclared emergency-like atmosphere has been created in the country..." he added.
The 'Dandi March', also known as the Salt March, Salt Satyagraha, or the Dandi Satyagraha, was led by Mahatma Gandhi. It was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India.

President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, Govind Singh Dotasra, also interacting with the media, remarked, “"We are taking out a silent procession. We want to give a message that the country belongs to the countrymen, not to the BJP and those sitting in the dictatorial government. It is a country of 144 crore people.”
