Hezbollah Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi Death in Israel Airstrike Latest News: On Wednesday, Hezbollah confirmed the death of a senior commander, just hours after Israel’s military reported his killing in a strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut. According to Lebanese officials, the attack resulted in six fatalities.
In a statement, Hezbollah, which Iran backs, announced the passing of "commander Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi," describing him as having been "martyred on the road to Jerusalem" – a term the group uses for fighters who die in Israeli attacks.
The previous day, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared that they had "eliminated Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi," who they identified as the commander of Hezbollah's missile and rocket network.
Lebanon's health ministry reported that the "Israeli enemy’s airstrike in the Ghobeiri area of Beirut’s southern suburbs" had killed six people and left 15 others injured.
The Israeli military elaborated that Kobeissi was responsible for several rocket units, including one managing precision-guided missiles, and that the strike had also targeted other key Hezbollah missile and rocket commanders.
"Kobeissi was a significant figure in the missile field and maintained close relationships with senior Hezbollah military leaders," the IDF said.
Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated during a press briefing that "at least two" additional commanders within Kobeissi's missile force had also been "eliminated" in the raid.
This operation followed another "targeted strike" by Israel on Beirut’s southern suburbs, carried out the day before.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah clarified that its third-in-command, Ali Karake, was safe after a separate attack on Monday, which a source previously told AFP had been aimed at him.
