Lyallpur Khalsa College Sports Meet: Pargat Singh Inspires Students

Jalandhar : â€‹Former Education Minister and MLA Pargat Singh stated today that sound thinking and physical health are the pillars that strengthen both our character and our heritage. He emphasized that the playground remains the best platform for building meaningful relationships and maintaining well-being.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the Sports Meet organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Pargat Singh inaugurated the event and encouraged students to remain deeply connected to athletics.

He remarked that the heritage of Punjab is defined by resilience and the courage to face challenges—a legacy he described as rare in the global context. However, he expressed concern that this heritage is weakening and urged the community to identify the causes of this decline to preserve Punjabi values.

Modern Technology Is Eroding Emotional Bonds Among Youth

The MLA further noted that over-dependence on technology has isolated the youth. While the younger generation may have thousands of social media "friends," few stand by them in real-life situations because emotional connections are fading. He argued that while social platforms provide transactional connections, true camaraderie is forged on the field.

Citing a global study, he warned that by 2035, with a projected world population of 9 billion and rising automation, unemployment could affect 8 billion people.  This shift could lead to a mental health crisis affecting half the population. Singh concluded that the most effective shield against mental illness and social isolation is sports, which nurture the spirit of togetherness and collective progress.
