LAT Aerospace, co-founded by Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal and his former COO Surobhi Das, has acquired Sharang Shakti, an early-stage defence robotics startup based in Gurugram. The acquisition aims to develop shared technologies for sensing, navigation, and control systems.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Goyal explained that LAT Aerospace intends to build in-house capabilities that will support long-term projects in civil aviation as well as defence.

Goyal recently resigned as Managing Director and Group CEO of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, to focus on high-risk, innovative ventures. He has been appointed Vice Chairman of Eternal while leading LAT Aerospace’s new direction.

Founded in January 2025, LAT Aerospace is focused on creating a new generation of Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft, designed to operate from compact airstops rather than conventional airports. According to Goyal, while civil aviation and defence are typically treated as separate sectors, the underlying technology autonomy, perception, sensing, navigation, guidance, and control systems can be leveraged across both.

By integrating Sharang Shakti into LAT, the company aims to develop these core technologies internally, allowing gradual deployment across defence and civil programmes. Goyal emphasised that this approach will strengthen domestic capabilities and support LAT Aerospace’s mission to create next-generation aviation platforms from India.
