World Water Day 2023

Several people around the world lack adequate access to clean water

The World Water Day is being observed on March 22 every year across the world. The Key objective of the day is to inspire people to sustainably manage the water resources and be aware about water-related crises or issues. After air, water is the most important element for the preservation of life. Without the water, life cannot be imagined. Water is the elixir of life.

The World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 1992. The first World Water Day was observed in the year 1993.

The Day-to-Day is totally dependent on water as from drinking to cleaning home, utensils, bathing, self hygiene and other activities. Many people are privileged to have running water 24x7 but there is a huge population in the world that have difficult access to water.

As the global population increases, and development continues, water resources of many countries are failing to meet accelerating demand of people. Climate change is making water scarcity worse. If water not managed properly in future, then people have to face extreme shortages which will result in difficult survival of life.

Reportedly, several people around the world lack adequate access to clean water. The problem is getting worse due to global warming and population growth.

About Water Scarcity.....

Water scarcity can be divided into two categories, physical scarcity, when there is a water shortage because of local ecological conditions. Other one is the economic scarcity, when there is inadequate water infrastructure.

For example, a area can have both a rainfall shortage as well as a lack of adequate water storage and facilities.

This year's theme is 'Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis', which highlights the necessity of taking strong action to address the global water crisis. - Fix the water leakage problems in the bathroom or kitchen at your home. It is one of the easiest ways for saving water in daily life.

- Various surveys shows that a lot of water is wasted everyday while bathing or brushing your teeth. Turn off the tap while brushing, shaving or washing utensils.

- Use buckets or partially filled tubs and take shorter showers in everyday life. It can really save a lot of water.

- Use a rainwater tank in monsoon as it is one of the best ways to conserve water. The water collected from rain can also be put to good uses.

- Save water  by using a pail of soapy water to clean your car. Keeping the hose closed while washing saves thousand gallons of water. Use the hose only when you rinse your car.

- Children love to play under a showe, hose or sprinkler in summers. This results in wasting a lot of water. Tell your children about the benefits of saving water and make them aware about the matter.
