Nearly 200,000 individuals have been evacuated from their homes this season

YELLOWKNIFE: A Raging wildfire has once again engulfed the forests of Canada, prompting the evacuation of 20,000 residents from the city of Yellowknife. The inferno, considered one of the deadliest wildfires in the nation this year, has prompted an all-hands-on-deck effort from firefighting crews to protect the city from the advancing flames.

As more than 1,000 fires continue to scorch various regions across the country, spanning approximately 265 areas, the cumulative impact of these blazes has consumed a staggering area of about 1.34 lakh square kilometers. This statistic is a stark contrast, nearly six times greater, than the average burned area over a decade. The relentless wildfires have forced nearly 200,000 individuals from their homes this season, underscoring the scale of the crisis.

Rebecca, the Mayor of Yellowknife, revealed that specialized teams are laboring tirelessly to mitigate the fire's progress by strategically clearing trees near the city. Presently, the fire remains approximately 15 kilometers away from the city's northwestern outskirts. Should the area remain devoid of rainfall, experts predict the flames could encroach upon the city's outskirts by Saturday.

In response to the escalating emergency, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau convened a meeting of the incident response team on Thursday. Eminent officials and ministers converged to address the situation with urgency. Taking tangible steps, five flights were dispatched on Thursday to transport displaced citizens to Alberta, with hundreds observed queuing outside the local high school to board the planes.
