Jutsin Trudeau Admits Lack of "Hard Evidence" in India-Canada Diplomatic Standoff

During his testimony, Trudeau clarified that the allegations were based on intelligence rather than conclusive evidence.

India-Canada Relation Latest News: In a significant revelation, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau acknowledged that his government lacked "hard evidentiary proof" to substantiate claims linking Indian government agents to the 2023 assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The admission, made during a public inquiry on Wednesday, comes as tensions between India and Canada continue to escalate.

During his testimony, Trudeau clarified that the allegations were based on intelligence rather than conclusive evidence. He stated, "I was briefed on intelligence from Canada and possibly from Five Eyes allies, which indicated that India was involved in the killing of a Canadian on Canadian soil."

The Five Eyes alliance, comprising Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, focuses on intelligence sharing. Trudeau emphasized that the intelligence was concerning enough for his government to take seriously.

The diplomatic crisis between India and Canada began after Canada accused Indian diplomats of gathering information on Canadian citizens critical of the Modi government. Trudeau's testimony suggested that this information was passed to senior Indian officials and criminal organizations, including the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which Canadian authorities have linked to violence against pro-Khalistani activists.

Nijjar, labeled a terrorist by India in 2020, was killed outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) later implicated six Indian diplomats in a plot to murder Nijjar and suggested a connection between the Bishnoi gang and Indian government agents.

Trudeau admitted that his government could have made the allegations public during the G20 summit in New Delhi in 2023 but chose not to, citing the need for cooperation between Canadian and Indian security agencies.
