Canadian Media Criticizes Justin Trudeau's Approach in India-Canada Diplomatic Row

Canadian media is holding the government accountable for its lack of clarity and evidence in the ongoing diplomatic dispute.

India Canada Controversy News: As tensions between India and Canada hit a historic low, Canadian media and think tanks have voiced sharp criticism of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his handling of the diplomatic fallout. The controversy began after Ottawa named Indian diplomats as "persons of interest" in connection with the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, sparking outrage from New Delhi.

In a scathing article published in The National Post, senior journalist John Ivison accused the Trudeau government of making baseless allegations against India without providing credible evidence. He argued that Canada has allowed Sikh extremism to "flourish" and alleged that Trudeau's approach has been influenced by diaspora politics, notably failing to address the Khalistani threat adequately.

Ivison further criticized the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for making serious accusations against Indian agents, calling it a "highly unusual public statement" without evidence. He warned that the RCMP may have been used for political purposes, deepening the diplomatic crisis.

The article also highlighted Canada's failure to crack down on suspected Khalistani extremists, referencing a 2023 parade float in Toronto that celebrated the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Ivison emphasized that it is not in Canada's interest to be at odds with India, warning that Trudeau's handling of the situation has exacerbated an already delicate relationship between the two nations.

With pressure mounting on Trudeau to provide transparency and address concerns raised by New Delhi, Canadian media is holding the government accountable for its lack of clarity and evidence in the ongoing diplomatic dispute.
