Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao will receive the Prize for Statistics
WASHINGTON: Renowned Indian-American mathematician and statistician Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao will receive the 2023 International Prize for Statistics, the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in the field, for his groundbreaking work that revolutionized statistical thinking 75 years ago.
Rao, now 102, will receive the $80,000 prize at the biennial International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress this July in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
In a statement issued on April 1, the foundation said, "In a landmark paper published in 1945 in the Bulletin of the Calcutta Mathematical Society, Rao outlined three fundamental results that paved the way for the modern field of statistics and provided statistical methods that are still widely used in science today."
