"Let’s Stand Firm Against Violence": Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café Responds After Attack
Surrey, Canada: Famous comedian Kapil Sharma’s newly opened café, Kap’s Café, in Surrey, Canada, was attacked on Thursday when multiple rounds of bullets were fired at the premises. In response, the café has issued a strong and heartfelt statement via its official Instagram page.
The shooting had taken place while the staff members of the cafe were still present, damaging the property, the Surrey Police said.
“We opened Kap’s Café with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”
The café also expressed its gratitude to supporters. “This café exists because of your belief in what we are building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Café remains a place of warmth and community.”
“From all of us at Kap’s Café, thank you—and see you soon under better skies—with hope and gratitude.”
Unidentified assailants attacked the café, firing nearly 12 bullets at the establishment, according to Canadian journalist Sameer Kaushal. The café had opened just five days earlier.
According to a report by India Today, Khalistani terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi claimed responsibility for the attack. Laddi, reportedly one of India's most-wanted terrorists, is associated with the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The report cites sources claiming that the firing was motivated by a past comment made by Kapil Sharma.
In another note on Instagram, the café thanked the Surrey Police for their swift response.
“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Surrey Police for their prompt response and efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety during this difficult time.”
In a statement, Surrey Police said that they are investifating into the shooting and looking into connections with other incidents, and motives behind the shooting are being examined. "There is currently no suspect information available to share," it added.
"On Thursday, July 10, at 1.50 am, Surrey Police Service was called to a business located in the 8400 block of 120 Street for a report of shots fired. Upon police arrival, it was quickly determined that shots were fired towards the business, damaging the property, while staff members were still present inside. There were no injuries to anyone at the business. SPS officers gathered evidence and canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance video," the police statement said.
