Rising Death Toll & Widespread Devastation: China Grapples with Severe Floods and Storm Damage

BEIJING: China is grappling with severe floods caused by torrential rains and the impact of Typhoon 'Doxri,' leaving a trail of destruction and claiming the lives of at least 21 people. The capital city, Beijing, has witnessed heavy downpours, with the country experiencing the highest recorded rainfall in 140 years. The record-breaking rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding, inundating roads and canals, and causing significant disruptions to daily life.

The Beijing Meteorological Bureau has reported unprecedented rainfall figures, with the city witnessing a staggering 744.8 millimeters (29.3 inches) of rain from last Saturday to Wednesday morning. The relentless downpour, combined with the impact of Typhoon 'Doxri,' has led to catastrophic flooding in various regions of China.

The floods have severely affected China's Hebei province, leaving the populace grappling with immense challenges as waters continue to rise. Roads and canals have been submerged under huge volumes of water, bringing traffic to a standstill and making transportation virtually impossible. The rising water levels have posed serious threats to residents' safety and disrupted essential services like electricity supply.

Tragically, 21 people have lost their lives in accidents linked to the storm and heavy rains. The calamity has forced authorities to undertake rescue operations and provide aid to those affected. However, the scale of the floods and the incessant rainfall have made the task of mitigating the impact extremely challenging.

China's National Disaster Response authorities are actively involved in managing the situation, deploying resources to assist affected communities and provide necessary relief. The ongoing floods and devastation have prompted emergency measures to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens in the affected regions.
