Uttarakhand CM Reviews Situation After Cloudburst in Uttarkashi; Chardham Yatra Suspended for 24 Hours
Uttarakhand Latest News updates: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday on June 30 reviewed the situation from the State Disaster Control Room following a cloudburst and landslide at Silai Band on the Barkot–Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district, ANI reported.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami said, “In the tragic incident of a landslide in the Silai Band area of Barkot Tehsil, Uttarkashi district, it has been reported that some workers are missing. Teams, including SDRF, NDRF, and others, have reached the site and are engaged in intensive relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the concerned authorities regarding this matter.”

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey announced that the Chardham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours as a precautionary measure due to continuous heavy rainfall and the high possibility of landslides.
“This step has been taken to protect life and property. District administrations have been placed on high alert, and relief and rescue teams have been deployed. A decision on resuming the Yatra will be taken after reviewing weather and road conditions tomorrow,” Pandey said.
He also told ANI, “Instructions have been issued to the police and district officials to halt pilgrims at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag, and Vikasnagar.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dehradun has issued an orange alert for June 29, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, and U.S. Nagar districts.

Additionally, a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and a very intense to extremely intense spell of rain is likely to occur at isolated locations across several districts of Uttarakhand.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Uttarkashi, warning of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in the district.
