Shia Leader Appeals Evacuation of Stranded Pilgrims in Iran latest news: In light of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, a Shia religious leader from Uttar Pradesh has appealed to the Government of India to evacuate Indian pilgrims stranded in Iran amid the escalating crisis.

Speaking to ANI, Maulana Saif Abbas said, "Indian pilgrims who cannot afford to go for Hajj often travel to religious sites in Iran and Iraq. Many of our people are currently stuck in these countries."

He added that on June 16, they had written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, requesting the urgent evacuation of Indian pilgrims stranded in both Iran and Iraq.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday issued a statement confirming that Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for safety reasons, through arrangements made by the Indian Embassy. Other residents with access to private transportation have also been advised to leave the city due to the deteriorating security situation. Some Indians have been assisted in crossing the border into Armenia.

According to a report by Babushahi, over 100 Indian have been successfully evacuated from Iran to Armenia and will be flown back to Delhi soon and more such evacuations are likely in the coming hours, the report noted.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India, in a press release issued on Tuesday, stated that due to the ongoing conflict, 224 civilians, including women and children, have been killed and 1,257 others injured so far in Iran.

The Israel–Iran war has now entered its fifth day. Israel launched Operation Rising Lion on June 13, deploying over 200 aircraft, to which Iran has retaliated.
