Chandigarh: Lashing out at Captain Amarinder Singh for his undue remarks accusing the LoP Sukhpal Singh Khaira for politicising the issue of farmers during his recent visit to cotton belt of Mansa. The LoP on the contrary accused CM of politicising a burning issue of farm indebtedness and suicides by making utterly false promise of complete debt waiver during the elections.

Chandigarh: Lashing out at Captain Amarinder Singh for his undue remarks accusing the LoP Sukhpal Singh Khaira for politicising the issue of farmers during his recent visit to cotton belt of Mansa. The LoP on the contrary accused CM of politicising a burning issue of farm indebtedness and suicides by making utterly false promise of complete debt waiver during the elections. 

He said Capt. Amarinder Singh made a signed agreement with each farmer promising to waive off their total debt and exploited their sentiments for cheap political gains to win the elections. Now Capt. Amarinder Singh has made a complete U-turn on his debt waiver promise leaving the farmers in lurch, due to which the series of suicides have further escalated, he said.

In a press statement, Khaira said that rather than doing something constructive and helping the farmer community, Capt. Amarinder is politicizing the issue of crop failure and farmers’ suicides. He said that being the representative of people of Punjab, it is the moral duty of LoP to visit the aggrieved farmers of cotton belt and raise their issues, which he will continue to do despite baseless criticism by the CM.

“I am performing my duty with uttermost sincerity and dedication, due to which Punjabi’s living worldwide have started to pool in resources to help aggrieved farmers of the state, where the Captain government has completely failed”, said Khaira.  Captain Amarinder Singh must introspect sincerely whether his pre elections appeal to the farmers not to commit suicides has had any tangible effect?

On the contrary, the spate of suicides by farmers has escalated which only shows that people have lost hope from his government, said the LoP.   The LOP accused Capt. Amarinder Singh of great betrayal with the farmers by announcing a conditional debt waiver. Instead of waiving whole debt, Capt. Has now chosen to waive off only Rs. 2 lac of the farmers holding less than 5 acres of land, which is nothing but a cruel joke with the farming community.  

Talking about the White fly attack on cotton crop in Malwa region, Khaira accused the Congress government of patronizing substandard seed and spurious pesticide trade in the Punjab. “The Congress party used to blame Jathedar Tota Singh for shielding the pesticide mafia, but now they are following the same footsteps of said corrupt Akali leaders. Why no action has been taken against Tota Singh till date if he was accused in multi crores pesticides scam?” asked Khaira. The leader slammed Capt. Amarinder Singh for not only failing to announce compensation for the cotton crop failure instead the CM is holding farmers responsible for using substandard seeds leading to the failure of cotton crop.
