SGPC said that Fireworks is not part of festivals

Pointing towards SC's decision to ban crackers in the NCR region, the SGPC president has appealed to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to take a lead on same grounds so that Golden Temple too could be saved from the pollution caused by fireworks inside the complex.

“I welcome the SC's decision. On our part, we are equally aware of air pollution. The 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was dedicated to preserve the environment under which green belt was enhanced and plants were distributed to mark the occasion,” SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said. 

“Firecrackers were part and parcel of Gurpurbs and other special occasions like Bandi Chhor Divas. I have appealed to Akal Takht Jathedar to intervene and find a concrete way out,” he said.
