The former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal had boasted of an ISBT at Mohali which would be one of the best Inter State Bus terminuses in the country.  However, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur ISBT at Phase VI proved to be a failure.

The previous government led by SAD-BJP had claimed that more than 1932 buses would daily arrive at the new ISBT but it is completely a disaster as only 200 buses arrive daily on the bus terminus with only 100 people daily.

It’s a Public Private Partnership model and C & C Company handling the project and completed first phase of the bus terminus.

Gradually, the number of buses coming to the new bus stand decreased and even the passengers hesitate to come due to the non availability of buses.

The previous government had spent Rs 500 crore on this project and it is proved to be a white elephant. The Inter State Bus Terminus at Sector 43 Chandigarh is the main place for buses going to Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

The previous government had planned that the new bus stand would benefit the state but the travelers termed it as good for nothing as the buses going to Punjab from Punjab Roadways start from Chandigarh so it is just a halt for those buses. Moreover, the residents of Mohali and Kharar go to old bus stand at Phase VIII Mohali and Kharar.

The C & C Company which got the project from the Akali government already delayed the project for five years. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority has taken the initiative of termination of the contract with the company.

Even the investors who invested money in the PPP model asking the money back as the Bus Terminus fails to fetch the buses and travelers.

The project caught in a new controversy as Mohali Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the CGM of ISBT cum commercial complex to pay pending property tax of Rs 18 lakhs.

The total amount of the property tax was around Rs 21 lakh and the company operating the bus stand paid only Rs 2.75 lakhs.
