Former Congress general secretary Mandeep Singh Manna today submitted a memorandum to the Akal Takht demanding to summon SGPC member Bibi Jagir Kaur for her alleged role in the murder of her daughter.
Manna said since Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh was not available, he had handed over his demand to the Akal Takht Secretariat, demanding to declare her 'tankhaiah'.
"Aborting a foetus forcefully is a heinous crime according to Sikh tenets known as "Narri-Maar", which is a "Bajjar-Quraiht" (unpardonable sin). It is on records that she was sent to judicial custody for six months in 2012 and is currently on bail. It is surprising that she still continued to be the member of the SGPC. I demand that she should be summoned by the Akal Takht to submit her stance", he said.
Bibi Jagir was convicted to five-year rigorous imprisonment by a special CBI court of Patiala in 2012 allegedly in the case of her daughter Harpreet Kaur's death under mysterious circumstances in 2000. Though she was acquitted of murder charges, the court convicted her for conspiring in forcible abduction, kidnapping and wrongful confinement in the case.
He further said that the former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was behind the pardon of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Manna said that the Akal Takht should expel Sukhbir Singh Badal from Panth.
