Garment showroom gutted in Punjab

Phagwara: A three-storey garment showroom in a crowded marketplace here was gutted today, resulting in losses of lakhs of rupees, the police said. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident at the Gaushala Bazaar here.

Fire tenders rushed to the 'Fancy Boutique' showroom and doused the fire in over three hours. Anil Kumar, the owner's son, said that expensive ready- made garments, furniture and other valuables worth Rs 60-70 lakh were gutted in the fire.   


The exact figure can be ascertained only after assesment by officials concerned, he added. "The watchman and some morning walkers noticed smoke billowing from the upper storey of the showroom around 4.30 am. They informed us and we rushed to the site," Kumar said.

The police is yet to ascertain the cause of the fire. PTI
