Empower people with disabilities for inclusive growth: Kamlesh Kumar Pandey

Chandigarh: Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Kamlesh Kumar Pandey today said to ensure inclusive growth of the nation, stress must be given on empowering people with disabilities.  

According to an official spokesperson, the Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for Person with Disabilities, Government of India were here to review the implementation of the Rights of Persons With Disability (RPWD) Act, 2016 in the state.

During the review meeting, Pandey took stock of the facilities being provided by the departments of school education, health, PWD, local government, housing and urban development, transport, higher education, industries, technical education, rural development, personnel, finance and labour regarding various provisions of the Act.  

"Without empowering persons with disabilities, we cannot ensure the inclusive growth of the nation," Pandey said at the meeting, adding according to the 2011 census, there are 2.86 crore people with disabilities.

He said, "Since ages India has been nurturing a sympathetic outlook towards persons with disabilities. We have to march forward in this direction by giving due honour, government jobs and other special facilities to them at public place and government offices." PTI
