Ladowal toll plaza News: The Ladowal toll plaza, one of Punjab's busiest and most expensive tolls, resumed operations on Friday after a brief closure due to an employee strike. Toll workers had shut down the plaza earlier in the day to press for their demands, but the strike was called off following successful negotiations with the management.
The employees of the toll plaza had stopped collecting toll fees, but after the company's assurance to meet their demands, they returned to work, and toll collection has since resumed. (Ladowal toll plaza)
It is estimated that over 70,000 vehicles pass through the Ladowal toll plaza daily, with a revenue of approximately Rs 70 lakh per day.
Strike Details
Bachittar Singh, President of the Toll Plaza Employees Union District, confirmed that the toll remained closed for about an hour. Punjab Police officials mediated a meeting between the union and the company, leading to an agreement that addressed the workers' concerns. After the agreement, toll collection resumed, and the strike was officially called off.
Employee Grievances
Union leader Darshan Singh Ladi had earlier raised concerns over the lack of basic employee benefits at the toll plaza. Workers were reportedly denied government holidays, PF contributions, and access to welfare schemes like ESI. The toll plaza workers' union had initially announced an indefinite closure starting September 27 but ended the strike after reaching a settlement with the management.
With operations back to normal, vehicles are once again being charged toll fees, bringing the brief disruption to an end.
